1. THE DIVINE MESSAGE - MESSAGE FROM POOJYASHREE SHREE AMMA - THE ULTIMATE LIBERATOR BESTOWED BY LORD SHRI KRISHNA!

Radhekrishna!

Blessings to one and all in the world.

(Extracts from Poojyashree Shree Amma's discourse on Diwali)

Guruji Amma was doing Sathsang to one of her devotees over phone. In the meanwhile, arrangements were being made for recording of Guruji Amma's Divine Message on the occasion of Diwali, to be loaded in Vedhanaadham, monthly e-magazine of our Sathsangam. A disciple handed over the microphone to Guruji Amma, who happily took the same and continued the Divine Message to enable the devotee to hear the Sathsang. She was attending to these activities amidst her household chores in the kitchen by instructing a disciple symbolically with her eyes. Oh! Indeed Guruji Amma is the embodiment of "Saulabhyam" (Compassion). Read Guruji Amma's Divine Message and experience the Bliss.

Diwali is being celebrated all around with gay and gaiety. Diwali celebration starts with early morning oil-bath. Oil-bath should always be taken in hot water only and not in cold water considering the safety for the health. Even very great methods and measures have been explained in the Hindu religion in a most lucid manner. Irrespective of financial status each one of us should wear new clothes. May it be for Rs.1000/-, Rs.2000/- or Rs.10/-. Each one has his own capacity. During Diwali it is monsoon period in Tamil Nadu. Everybody wears new clothes and bursts crackers. In good olden days, China crackers (since originated from China) were burst. The main purpose of bursting crackers is to get rid off the germs and insects. The smoke emanated from crackers is inhaled and destroys the germs and insects.

Not to suffice, varieties of eatables are prepared. Naragasura (wicked demon) listens to all these. Every one of us craves for sumptuous tasty food. According to liking and capacity, eatables are prepared. Since it rains during Diwali and the climate being chill, coupled with oil-bath and the consumption of eatables, care should also be taken to keep the body fit. During such a climate one is more commonly prone to headache and fever. For this a home-made medicine in Tamil known as 'Diwali Marundhu' is prepared, enriched with dried ginger (sukku), black pepper (milagu), cumin seeds (jeeragam), omum (ajwain seeds) etc. What is taught in the Hindu religion and the Sri Vaishnava Sampradayam are amazing and remarkable and cannot be found elsewhere in the world. The homemade medicine, which is being prepared with spicy pungent ingredients, is also included with ghee and gingelly oil to avoid stomachache. After taking oil-bath and having taken the medicine in empty stomach the remaining household chores commence. In which corner of the universe are the festivals celebrated whereby health, wisdom and inner soul are nourished? Inspite of having been taught by our elders with so many great values in celebrating festivals, people are still fretting and fuming. Sinful people!

Diwali is celebrated as Lord Krishna destroyed the wicked demon Narakaasuran. However, secret behind such killing is to destroy the asuraas(evil qualities) in us in the form of anger, jealousy etc. People not only 'desire' to achieve but also are 'greedy'. Everyone wants to be the King / Minister and wants to occupy all the important positions in the world irrespective of their capabilities but object to God for having denied. If one is fit enough to be so and deserves, will definitely attain the same.

Pride, arrogance are to be destroyed. Bhagawaan Sri Krishna is full of tolerance and sacrifice. All bad qualities are to be destroyed and peace, happiness and contentment should prevail all over the world, which is symbolically taught by this Narakaasura Vadham. In this kaliyuga, people are of mandha buddhi, most of them living only for the materialistic pleasures. It is felt that Diwali is to be celebrated just by wearing new outfits, bursting crackers and eating varieties of eatables. In real sense, the inner soul (athma) should get peace, bliss and happiness. Asuraas (evil qualities) like anger and jealousy should be destroyed which is the essence of celebrating this festival. To attain this, 'Bhakthi' is very important. Bhakthi means namajabam i.e. chanting constantly Lord Krishna's name. This is the beginning of Bhakthi. In this context, the principle of 'Eka Namam Eka Deivam' (Chant one name and Surrender to one God unconditionally) is to be adopted. When we pray to countless Gods, concentration and meditation will not be possible. One should immerse completely in the ocean of Bhakthi. For this, the principle of Eka Namam Eka Deivam is a must. When we do such bhakthi, the asuraas (evil qualities) in the form of anger, jealousy etc. will be destroyed at once and it will only be bliss! bliss! bliss!

Living this human life is only for the happiness and bliss. By relishing varieties of food, wearing new clothes the enjoyment derived is temporary. People long for something else. The longing and search ends only in Bhakthi by way of namajabam, which adorns us with health, peace and satisfaction to the inner soul. Only those who are in practice of such Bhakthi i.e. chanting can realize this truth. An infant does not know the value of the currency note of Rs.100/-. It will simply tear it or put it in the mouth and lick it. Likewise, we Sathgurus know that though people are grown by age, are still in the stage of child in maturity and hence do not mind their foolish deeds or pranks. The kaliyuga dharma is namajabam i.e. chanting, which is the easiest and only way to do bhakthi. Desire to chant is the only requisite qualification. So, all of us should constantly chant, Krishna Krishna Krishna Krishna Krishna Krishna… Radhekrishna Radhekrishna Radhekrishna Radhekrishna

Radhekrishna.......

2. MAHATMAS - NEW BHAKTACHARITRAS EACH MONTH

India is the holy land with so many bhaktas (devotees). When we go through the Indian history, there must be a bhakta in every period. That is the greatness of this sacred land. Bhaktas are the role model for all the bonded souls. They enjoy their life in a perfect way. Bhaktas surrender themselves to the Lotus feet of Lord. By hearing or reading bhaktas' divine story, the bonded soul is enlightened to come out of the worldwide bondages.

Radhekrishna! Sincere chanting and listening to the great stories of devotees will surely give a peace of mind to everybody, even in this 21st century. So many people think that listening to the devotee's stories is a waste of time and there is no benefit at all. If somebody wants to realize the power of bagawan, first of all they must listen bhaktha charithram [stories of devotees]. There are so many advantages in listening to baktha charithram.

Radhekrishna! Aalinaadu Udaiyaar and his wife enjoyed the birth of a blue baby boy. They enjoyed the colour of the baby, so they named the baby as "Neelan". He was the incarnation of lord Sriman Narayana's saarangam {bow}. This was the fourth birth of Neelan. In his first birth in Kruthayuga he was born as Kardhama Prajapathi in a Brahmin family. In his second birth in Threthayuga he was born as Uparisaravasu in a king [Kshathriya] family. In his third birth in Dhwaaparayuga he was born as Sangabalan in a businessmen [Vaishya] family. In this Kaliyuga he has born as "Neelan" in a Shoodra family. In all yugas he exactly followed the duties of each Varna according to the character and attitude of each Varna.

Radhekrishna! Neelan learnt all sorts of battlefield skills. He was too good in battlefields. He had the capacity and thirst to win the enemies in the battlefields. The king of Chola dynasty admired the skills of Neelan. As the king was very much influenced by Neelan, he appointed him as commander in chief of his troops and also appointed him as a ruler of Kuraiyalur (Birth place of Neelan). Neelan proved to be a very good ruler. He had four ministers with him. The names of his ministers were neermEl nadappaan (the one who has a capability to walk on water), Nizhal othunguvaan (the one who has a capability to stand on the shadow of persons which would make them stand still), Thaaloothuvaan and Thola Vazhakkan.

Neelan spent all his life by giving importance only to the worldly pleasures. He never bothered about the future life. Neelan's life was passing on in enjoying the materialistic pleasures. But Bagawan Krishna knows how to attract His children and make them realize the true happiness. So Bagawan Krishna played this Leela in the life of Neelan.

Near by Kuraiyalur there is a DhivyadhEsam called ThiruveLLakkuLam. Many heavenly angels used to come to the pond of that place for playing and enjoying happiness. These angels have a specific time within which they should return to their place. But one day all the angels returned except one who could not return with them and now her time had also elapsed. So she had no other way out and hence was standing in that pond itself with a lotus in her hand. At that same time one aged doctor who belonged to Kuraiyalur was passing through that way. He saw that angel and went near her. He asked her who she was? Then she narrated the entire incident to him. This aged doctor did not have any children. So when he heard the incident narrated by the angel he became happy and immediately asked her to consider him as her father and come to his place. As that angel was holding a lotus in her hand she was named as Kumudhavalli (Kumudham-Lotus) Radhekrishna! That is the mercy of bagawan Sri Krishna. He never disappoints his bakthas. At proper time He would surely give a perfect solution for all our problems. Kumudhavalli went along with that doctor to his house. In this way Bagawan Krishna showered His blessings on that aged doctor as well as Kumudhavalli.

There Kumudhavalli started spending her life with the elderly couples. She spent her time in chanting and doing poojas to bagawan. The people of that village had never seen such a beautiful girl in their life. So everyone in and around the village started speaking about the beauty of Kumudhavalli.

Neelan also heard about the beauty of Kumudhavalli. From the time he had heard about Kumudhavalli he was very eager to see her. So he went to that doctor's place to see Kumudhavalli. Neelan did not express to anyone the true reason for which he had come and started talking with that doctor very causally. Though he was talking with that doctor his mind and heart was desperate to see Kumudhavalli. At that time Kumudhavalli entered the house. Neelan saw her and was drowned in her beauty. Neelan was well aware that the doctor did not have any children so he asked the doctor who this girl was. The doctor narrated the entire incident to Neelan. Neelan immediately without a second thought expressed his desire to marry Kumudhavalli. The doctor became very happy and whole-heartedly accepted this proposal of Neelan.

But when Kumudhavalli was informed about this matter she in front of her parents placed a condition. She said that Neelan has to accept this condition if he wants to marry her. RadheKrishna! Let us know the condition placed by Kumudhavalli in our next issue.

3. KRISHNAM VANDE JAGADHGURUM - EXTRACTS FROM THE HOLY BHAGAWATH GEETHA

Poojyashree Shree Amma and Mahaan Brahmashree Gopalavallidasan - Ammavin Thiruvadigale Sharanam!

YathkarOshi yadhashnaasi YajjuhOshi dhadhaasi Yath!
Yaththapasyasi Kountheya! Thathkurushva madharpanam!

Radhekrishna.Hinduism is an ancient religion. All the things that have been spoken in Hindu religion can be applied in practical life. Although in 21st century till everyone can apply this in his or her daily life. The aim of Hindu religion is to provide total happiness to everyone at all times (or any point of time). The essence of Hinduism is told in "Bhagawad Gita". In order to realize what is said in Bhagawad Gita it is a compulsory (must) to have an unconditional faith on Bhagawad Gita. So many people have benefited in their lives because of the (by reading) shlokas of Bhagawad Gita. In Bhagawad Gita, Bhagawan Shri Krishna has told the way to lead a happy life in such an easy way that even a normal layman can easily understand. The slokas are so simple that anyone can understand and use it practically.

In last month we learnt how it could be useful for students in their practical life. This time we will see how the words of Bhagawan can be used practically for other people. First we will see how it can be useful for housewives.

An ideal housewife has various activities right from the time she gets up in the morning till the time she goes to bed. Upon her lies the responsibility of waking up each and every person in the house at the time insisted by them, preparing breakfast for all, attending to their various needs, washing clothes, cleaning utensils, cleaning the house, preparing lunch, dinner, sending clothes to laundry etc. Not only this but after completing her household duties she has to complete the outside work also like purchasing vegetables, grocery etc.

Now-a-days many ladies are found to be working. A woman under such situations has to manage both the office work as well as her household duties. In some cases the men impose their superiority on their wives by saying that they have to work day and night without any rest for the welfare of their family members. But the men are rewarded for their work in the form of salary, perks, remuneration but housewives are unpaid servants {some women are even treated like slaves} who have to manage all the household duties as well as outside work. They never expect and never get anything in return for the work they perform.

Her entire day is spent in nursing, caring & attending and fulfilling the needs & desire of others. Almost all the housewives are engaged in performing all these activities. When we perform some activity we have to derive happiness from it. But it is a very common phenomenon that nearly 99% of the housewives do not derive happiness from the duties they perform. The reason behind this is that while performing their duties the housewives lacks the feeling that they are performing this duty for "Bhagawan Krishna".

The housewives sacrifice their day working for satisfying the needs of others. There is no end to her work even if she is facing any health problem. But she is not given any consideration for the work she does. Hence every housewife should perform her duties thinking that she is doing her duty and not for her loved ones but for her "Bhagawan Krishna". If a housewife performs her duties for Krishna then she would surely enjoy and derive happiness from those duties. She would never get frustrated, fed up or feel tired & vexed of performing the same duty again and again. When the housewives perform their duties for Krishna then He would take full care & restricts them from any sort of mistakes.

Thus the duties for which the housewives were never given consideration would start getting appreciation when they perform their duties for Krishna. The evergreen lovers of Krishna, the Gopis of Vraja Bhoomi {Brindhaavan} were doing this only. They never sat idle without performing their responsibility towards their family. They never did any sort of meditation but the only one thing that the Gopis did was they chanted the name of Krishna and performed all their duties only for Krishna.

Even today most of the housewives perform various kinds of poojas. Many of them read the divine books like Narayaneeyam, Vishnu Sahasranamam, Bhagawatham & so on. But in their busy and hectic schedule they find it very difficult to allot time for reading these divine books. In case if time permits and they read these divine books they never experience the sanctity of Bhagawan Krishna. This is so because it is only their mouth, which is uttering those slokas without the involvement of their heart and mind. There is no sense in thinking about the worldly materialistic things while we are doing poojas of Bhagawan. Bhagawan Krishna has never imposed any strict condition upon us that we have to spare or allot specific time for Him from this busy schedule of ours. This ocean of mercy understands our position and us very well than anyone else in this world.

Bhagawan Krishna is well aware of the workload and stress through which every housewife passes. His only expectation is that His children should lead a happy and prosperous life. It was with this sole intention that the kind, compassionate, merciful, caring Krishna opened His Lotus like lips and narrated this sloka. So we have to just chant His Nama continuously and do all our duties for Him. Similarly all the housewives have to just slightly change their mental attitude. They should chant the Nama of Bhagawan Krishna while performing their routine duties. Although they have to work for satisfying the desire of others they should think that they are performing their each and every activity for Krishna and not for their near and dear ones. By doing all the works for the sake of Bagawan Shri Krishna will surely give you salvation {moksha}.

Practise this method and enjoy the perfect happiness of family life. Radhekrishna! Let us enjoy how this sloka of bagawan is good for other people in the coming months. Until then Radhekrishna!

4. THE DIVINE SONGS - DHIVYAPRABHANDHAM

Naalaayira Dhivyaprabandham

Namanum Uthkalanum pEsa, naragil nindRaargaL kEtka,
NaragamE suvarggam aagum naamangal udaiya Nambi,
Avanadhu Oor arangam ennaadhu, ayarthhu veezhndhu aliya maandhar,
Kavalaiyul padukindRaar endRu athanukkE kavalkinREnE!

(Thirumaalai - 883 / 1000 / 4000)

Meaning:

When Yama was illustrating the greatness of the name of Bagawan Krishna to Uthkalan all the persons in the hell heard this and they experienced as if they were in heaven. This Bagawan with such a powerful name resides in Srirangam. I [Thondar Adi Podi Aazhwaar] am extremely worried about all those people who keep on thinking about the worldly and materialistic things instead of thinking about such a Bagawan.

Explanation:

This divine paasuram (song) is from Thirumaalai of Thondar Adi Podi Aazhwaar. Thondar Adi Podi Aazhwaar is also known as Vipranarayanan. Vipranarayanan was born on this divine Bharathabhoomi in the month of Maargazhi (Tamil Month) with the birth star as Kettai.

Thirumaalai is a prabhandham containing various divine paasurams, which illustrates the importance of Namasankeerthan. RadheKrishna! Thondar Adi Podi Aazhwaar is making us aware of a divine story through the above stated paasuram [song]. The chanting of Bagawan Nama yields good results even in the life of sinful persons.

There was a person named Uthkalan - who had committed various kinds of sins. One day he had a very strange wish. He made up his mind to donate something useless to an extremely poor Brahmin. Uthkalan wanted to derive happiness from the sufferings of the poor Brahmin. There are so many people in this world like this. So many people are donating like this. Some people donate for the fame. Those who are donating for the sake of bagawan only can enjoy a perfect happiness in it. At the same time you have to donate to a right person. Then only the lord will bless you. Otherwise lord will consider you as a sinner. Yes! Those who are donating for the wrong and the lazy people are spoiling the society and the universe. This is told by bagawan Shri Krishna in the Bagawath Geetha.

But Uthkalan never bothered about the sufferings of other beings. He was an animal in the human form. Those who are not behaving like a human are to be considered as animals. So one day he set out in search for a most suffering Brahmin. He searched throughout the day. At last in the evening he saw a Brahmin who looked very dull, pale, lean, weak, faint, his clothes were toned and his face was revealing the sufferings through which he was passing. Uthkalan jumped out of joy by seeing the Brahmin. Radhekrishna! There are so many persons in this world who derive happiness from the sufferings of other fellow beings. They don't have the heart at all. He went near that most suffering Brahmin. He asked the Brahmin about his life. The Brahmin cried like anything. He started narrating his sorrowful story. He said that he is passing through a very miserable condition. He said that his many days are passed without any food and he is dying out of hunger. He said there is no end to his sufferings and he had never experienced any happiness in his entire life. He said it would be a great favour on him if some one would feel pity on him and donate him something.

Uthkalan experienced extreme happiness on listening to the story of that poor Brahmin. His happiness knew no bounds. What a heart less creature!! Uthkalan asked the Brahmin to come to his house the next day morning. He said he wanted to give something to that Brahmin. The Brahmin who was totally unaware of the attitude of Uthkalan was overjoyed. He felt that he would get something, which would favour him to lead a happy life.

The next day arrived. The Brahmin very eagerly went to the house of Uthkalan. The sole intention of Uthkalan was to derive happiness by donating such a thing to the Brahmin that would add to his sufferings. With this intention Uthkalan brought before the Brahmin a cow whose condition was worst than the condition of that Brahmin himself. It was in such a condition that its life would come to an end at any point of time. The only one good thing, which Uthkalan did, was while he was donating the cow to the Brahmin, he unintentionally and unknowingly uttered the Nama [name] of Bagawan Krishna. This was the only single right thing that he had done during his entire life span.

After Uthkalan's death the messengers of Yama took him to the Naraka loka (place of Yama - hell). Uthkalan was given a very grand welcome in the hell. Uthkalan was well aware of all the sins that he had done and was damp sure that he would be punished severely for his misdeeds. But seeing the warm welcome given to him Uthkalan was extremely surprised. He could not resist himself and he asked Yama the reason for this. At that time Yama replied and brought to his notice the fact that while he had donated the cow to that poor Brahmin he had uttered the Nama of bagawan Krishna. Such is the greatness of Krishna Nama sankeerthanam. Just one Nama of bagawan Krishna that he had uttered unknowingly had given him a warm welcome even in Hell. Such is the greatness and power of chanting the Nama of Bagawan Sri Krishna.

Uthkalan neither had belief on bagawan Krishna nor did he have any liking in chanting the Nama of bagawan Krishna. He had spent his entire life in committing sins. But still the Nama of bagawan Krishna proved good to him. Such is the mercy of bagawan Krishna which is incomparable and which has no boundaries.

The conversation between Uthkalan and Yama fell in the ears of the other persons who were in hell. All the persons in the hell heard the word Krishna while Yama was narrating the incident to Uthkalan. The sins, which these persons had committed during their lifetime, were responsible for giving them a place in hell. Each of them was passing through different phases of punishment for the misdeeds, which they have done. They did not even bother to concentrate on what discussion was going on between Uthkalan and Yama. They were not at all aware of the power of chanting the Nama of Bagawan Krishna. But the moment the Nama of bagawan Krishna fell on their ears they experienced a soothing feeling as in swarga loka (heaven). These persons had never been to heaven or never experienced it. But as soon as the Nama of bagawan Krishna fell on their ears they experienced an extreme level of happiness.

When the Nama of Bagawan Krishna heard unknowingly can give a heavenly feeling to all those present in Hell, then why not on this bhooloka (Earth)? So it is the prime duty of all the jeevathamas who are mostly drowned in the worldly and materialistic pleasures to realise and chant the Nama of Bagawan Shri Krishna. Thondar Adi Podi Aazhwar is worried for all such Jeevathamas on this earth who are not realising the greatness and importance of chanting the Namasankeerthanam of Bagawan Krishna who is so easily approachable.

Radhekrishna! So is it not our duty to chant the lords name atleast for fulfilling the desire of Sri Thondar Adi Podi Aazhwar?

Are we going to fulfill the wish of such a great devotee or not?

Let us meet next month with a different divine song of another great Aazhwar.Until then Radhekrishna!

5. SPRING OF SPIRITUAL SHOWERS - EXPERIENCES OF BHAKTAS, DISCIPLES OF POOJYASHREE SHREE AMMA, OUR GURUJIAMMA

An experience of a Shishyan (disciple) from Chennai, in his own words.

RadheKrishna

Jai Shree Poojyashree Shree Amma

Ammavin Thiruvadigale Saranam

Poojyashree Shree Ammavin thiruvadigale saranam saranam saranam

Radhekrishna... Radhekrishna... Radhekrishna... Radhekrishna...

The things that happens accidentally, by Bhagavath sangalpam can give much good things. The plans, sustained efforts and all our calculations will not serve well, in every circumstance. The turning point in my life also taken place in the same way. I came as a patient. Then asked one day, shall I learn Yoga? and that changed my attitude. Then I started practicing Yoga. It is the Teen Age that decides one's character. A person may shape is character well or get ruined himself at that age. It was at that crucial time, when I started practicing Yoga. Even though I was getting good marks in my curriculum, my mind was covered with fear, negative thoughts, changing moods etc., I was always having a thought, will I go in a wrong way? get addicted to bad habits and spoil myself. The practice of Yoga, has given me a stepping stone to enter into Bhakti.

Guruji Amma gave me manthropadesham- Nama Japam. Guruji Amma asked me to chant, "Radhekrishna.. Radhekrishna..'' First I neglected, opposed, criticized, and had full of suspicion and doubt to accept it or not. Then later on everything changed. I started chanting "Radhekrishna".

The chanting gave me inner confidence, inner peace. Then the path of my life has become easier. I could face the problems, with confidence. It is the chanting that only saves me. My physical power, mental power, tactics, cleverness, all will serve only in vain. At each step when I surrender to Bhagavan, by chanting Radhekrishna, and seeking the blessings of Guruji Amma, there I see a hope of light in the midst of darkness, which guides me to success. The world usually acknowledges the 'true Mahatma', only after a time Interval of their life span. In later years, the world, glorifies them, and surrenders at their divine pilgrimage with utmost devotion and faith. Only a few bestowed souls are able to understand the Mahatma's true individuality, during their lifetime itself. I am praying to Bhagavan Radhekrishna, to give me the mind and will to make myself a Sathsishya to my Guruji Amma i.e. Poojyashree Shree Amma.

In this present day fast world, no one has the time to sit and close eyes. The practice of rituals needs utmost care and are confusing too. Entering into true Yogic state, forsaking everything and living in forest, will not serve the purpose to all.

'Namajabam' is the only way to attain mukthi or moksham, in this Kaliyugam. The man's mind is filled with irresistible temptations, unfulfilled dreams, etc., By chanting the divine name - namajabam - Radhekrishna, we are in a way marching towards Bhagavan's Lotus Feet.

Namajabam is the simple seed, which can sprout as a big bhakthi tree. Under the shadow of this tree, all the human beings can relax themselves and enjoy the divine happiness. Our Guruji Amma showers the blessings and grace to one and all, who surrenders themselves to the lotus feet of Lord Krishna.

Guruji Amma is praying to Bhagavan and removes the sorrows and sufferings of devotees. Guruji Amma is praying to Bhagavan to relieve the mankind from sufferings, sorrows and make this world itself as Vaikundam- divine abode of Bhagavan. Guruji Amma's heart is so big to invite, the entire mankind to taste the divine happiness of Bhagavan Radhekrishna, thereby making the statement 'Lokaa Samastha Sukino Bhavanthu' - a reality.

I humbly surrender myself to Guruji Amma's feet, to shower the blessings on me.

Jai Shree Poojyashree Shree Amma.

Jai Shree Radhekrishna.

A disappointing news for all Bombay devotees of Mahaan Brahmashree Gopalavallidasan as He will will away from 17th to 24th December for Sathsang at Trivandrum. All bhaktas will miss the Vaikuntha Ekadashi chantings with Him overnight like they did the previous year!

Mahaan Brahmashree Gopalavallidasan will give discourse on Thiruppavai at Dombivli from 24th December to January 4th 2005!
